Software Engineer, Backend (Consumer - Growth) at Coinbase

Overview

Coinbase is hiring a Backend Software Engineer for the Consumer - Growth team to build the next generation of crypto-forward products and systems. You will design and implement scalable backend services that power growth experiments, onboarding flows, referral and incentives programs, notifications, and other features that help bring the world onchain.

What you will do

• Design, build, and run experiments that accelerate growth for Coinbase retail products.
• Architect and implement scalable backend systems using modern cloud technologies and best practices.
• Collaborate with product, design, and engineering partners to turn product vision into a quarterly roadmap and deliver production-quality features.
• Write high quality, well tested code and participate in the full development lifecycle.
• Operationalize services for reliability, observability, and performance at web scale with low latency requirements.

Minimum qualifications

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production backend services and service oriented architectures.
• Strong engineering fundamentals including testing, observability, and performance optimization.
• Experience with cloud platforms and building backend services that serve high-traffic products.

Nice to haves

• Experience launching products from 0 to 1, and running growth experiments or A/B testing frameworks.
• Experience with blockchain technologies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, or other onchain systems.
• Familiarity with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Postgres, MongoDB, DynamoDB, or similar stacks.
• Experience building fintech, highly reliable, or security-sensitive systems.

Compensation and benefits

Pay range: $147,000 - $174,000 USD target annual salary, depending on work location. Full time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits such as medical, dental, vision and retirement where applicable.

Work model

Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only. This posting is remote-eligible and may require periodic in-person participation for team and company offsites. Location and pay may vary by candidate location.
