Role overview
We are seeking a Security Researcher - Team Lead to join the Imunify web protection team. You will lead a team of security engineers and researchers to drive research, improve WAF rules, and deliver robust web protection features. This fully remote role allows you to work from anywhere worldwide while leading technical planning, code reviews, and new security initiatives.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and lead the Web Protection team, mentoring engineers and researchers.
- Guide technical planning, review code, and supervise new releases and deployments.
- Monitor production data, improve Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules, and refine bot protection strategies.
- Drive research and experiments on web attacks, bot mitigation, and protection techniques.
- Help mature and maintain the team codebase, primarily written in Python.
- Develop reproducible tests and automate monitoring and testing workflows.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or similar field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a team lead or technical lead role.
- Strong Python experience, including prototyping and automation for security tasks.
- Deep understanding of web security, network security, and bot protection techniques.
- Practical knowledge of SQL query writing and optimisation.
- Good English communication skills at upper-intermediate level or higher.
Nice to have
- Experience with web hosting environments, Linux command line, and hosting control panels such as cPanel or DirectAdmin.
- Familiarity with ModSecurity, OSSEC, regular expression syntax for rules, and WAF tuning.
- Experience with advanced Linux debugging tools and low-level monitoring.
