Role Overview

We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to design, maintain, and evolve backend services and APIs that connect Phantom Cash to blockchains. You will blend systems thinking with product pragmatism to deliver reliable, scalable services that power Money Movement flows. You will communicate clearly across teams, document systems thoroughly, and raise the engineering bar through execution and mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services and APIs that integrate off-chain systems with blockchains.
• Build robust REST APIs including versioning, pagination, error models, authentication, and rate limiting.
• Design event-driven systems with queues, retries, and idempotency guarantees.
• Balance reliability, performance, and speed while meeting product needs and user impact goals.
• Document systems and communicate effectively across product, frontend, and infrastructure teams.
• Drive distributed systems best practices including concurrency control, ordering, retries, and data consistency.
• Participate in on-call rotations and ownership of production services where applicable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Pragmatic engineering mindset focused on results and user impact.
• Proactive, outcome-oriented, and able to push features to completion without waiting for perfect specs.
• Strong communicator and pragmatic problem solver who explains complexity simply and favors progress over perfection.
• Proven experience with Node.js, ideally using frameworks such as NestJS at scale.
• Experience with event-driven architecture, queues, retry strategies, and idempotency.
• Deep understanding of REST API design and operational concerns.
• Full-stack awareness to make informed trade-offs around state management and latency budgets.
• Solid foundations in distributed systems including concurrency, ordering, retries, and data consistency.

Nice to Have

• Kubernetes and AWS operational experience, CI/CD and observability tooling.
• Hands-on experience with on-call ownership and production operations.
• Strong interest in crypto and familiarity with wallets, blockchain protocols, and security norms.
• Previous experience in crypto or fintech including exchanges, wallets, payment rails, or ledgers.
• Understanding of smart contracts and how on-chain programs interact with off-chain services.
• Experience integrating with Solana, or EVM compatible chains.
• Track record of shipping high-quality products at high-bar engineering organizations.
