About You
You are a product designer with a strong focus on growth, retention, engagement, and monetization. You enjoy crafting high-impact user experiences for mobile and web, and you use data and experiments to inform design decisions. You collaborate across product, marketing, engineering, and content to influence measurement-driven design that moves key business metrics.
What you will do
- Design high-quality, responsive experiences for mobile and web, focusing on first-time user flows, onboarding, and conversion funnels.
- Optimize top-of-funnel experiences, registration screens, homepage experiments, and app store assets to drive growth and monetization.
- Run rapid, parallel experiments while maintaining a long-term design vision and system consistency.
- Partner with Product Managers, Marketers, Copywriters, and Engineers to translate goals into effective UI and interaction designs that improve engagement and conversion.
- Design landing pages, registration flows, membership pages, and upgrade nudges that improve conversion rates and lifetime value.
- Own designs through implementation, ensuring consistency across platforms and touch points.
- Present design proposals with clear rationale backed by user insights and metrics.
- Contribute to Growth initiatives, including upsell and cross-sell experiments, and support design reviews to elevate team output.
Preferred Skills
- 5+ years of product or UX design experience, with a strong track record on consumer mobile apps and web focused on growth and monetization.
- Proven success improving retention, engagement, and conversion rates through design experiments and data-driven iteration.
- Strong visual and interaction design skills, and deep experience with Figma and design systems.
- A portfolio showcasing mobile and web projects that improved conversion or influenced purchase decisions, such as landing pages and membership flows.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain design decisions clearly to cross-functional partners.
- A sense of ownership, continuous improvement mindset, and the ability to work autonomously in a distributed team.
Bonus Points
- Experience in kids gaming or edtech.
- Experience designing for mobile games.
- A love of chess and familiarity with Chess.com products.
- Experience experimenting with AI-powered design tools, motion design, or UI animation.
About the Opportunity
This is a full-time role. Chess.com is 100% remote - work from anywhere - though preferred timezones for this role are within the Americas, Canada, and Spain. You will join a global design team and contribute to products that introduce chess to kids and families.
