Role overview

Canonical is hiring a Telco Cloud Engineer to work remotely across the Americas. You will design and deliver OpenStack, Kubernetes and software-defined networking solutions for telco customers, helping operators adopt cloud-native VNFs and CNFs for 5G and beyond. This is a hands-on role combining design, implementation and automation to meet telco-grade requirements.

What your day will look like

  • Match customer requirements to advanced capabilities in the VNF/CNF/NFVi/NFVO/VNFM/VIM/MEC space.
  • Provide technical pre-sales consulting to service provider teams.
  • Design and implement telco-grade multi-tenant private clouds and micro clouds.
  • Deploy cloud solutions (OpenStack, Kubernetes, MAAS, Ceph) and automate operations.
  • Investigate, report and fix software defects uncovered during deployments.
  • Demonstrate Infrastructure as Code techniques and automation scripting, including terraform and related tooling.
  • Work with model-driven operations using Juju charms for services like Kafka, Hadoop, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, NGINX and more.
  • Help customers adopt Bare Metal, Public, Private and Hybrid Cloud solutions and feed learnings back to product and roadmap.

What we are looking for in you

  • Python software development experience - mandatory, intermediate level.
  • Terraform automation experience.
  • Thorough understanding of telco NFVi (VIM), NFVO, VNFM and MEC concepts.
  • Technical knowledge of telco technologies such as CPU pinning, NUMA, SRIOV, DPDK.
  • Working knowledge of Mobile Packet Core, Radio, VAS, OSS/BSS and telco infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of Linux, OpenStack and Kubernetes networking.
  • Strong automation mindset and ability to lead complex projects from start to finish.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, and a collaborative attitude focused on customer success.
  • Availability to travel up to 50% for events, customer meetings and project delivery.

  • Second language skills.
  • Track record of open source contributions.
