WordPress Developer at Awesome Motive

About the role
We are looking for a skilled WordPress Developer to join a fully remote, distributed team at Awesome Motive. You will build and maintain WordPress plugins and platform features, fix bugs, improve performance, and help scale systems that reach millions of users. This role blends front end and back end work, and requires availability for meetings during a portion of the 9am - 5pm ET operating window.
Key responsibilities
- Triage, scope, implement, test, and ship new product features and plugin addons.
- Refactor legacy code with care for backwards compatibility and maintainability.
- Write clean, well documented PHP and JavaScript code and extend build tooling with gulp or webpack as needed.
- Integrate and consume third party APIs such as Stripe, Drip, and Zapier.
- Perform peer code review via GitHub pull requests and collaborate with colleagues using chat, audio, and video.
- Diagnose and resolve production issues, and contribute to documentation and runbooks.
Requirements
- Professional experience building WordPress plugins and knowledge of WordPress architecture and standards.
- Advanced proficiency in PHP and MySQL, using modern PHP practices such as OOP, autoloading, namespacing, and interfaces.
- Strong JavaScript skills including vanilla JS, jQuery and modern ES6 patterns.
- Experience with package managers like Composer and NPM, and build tools like gulp or webpack.
- Familiarity with Git and GitHub workflows.
- Experience working remotely or as a freelancer, and reliable internet and computer for audio/video meetings.
- Availability to participate in meetings during a portion of the 9am - 5pm ET timeframe.
Nice to have
- Experience with VueJS or React.
- Ecommerce experience with WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, Stripe, or PayPal.
- DevOps or infrastructure management experience.
