Graduate Talent Scientist

Location: Home based - EMEA

Canonical is hiring a Graduate Talent Scientist to join the Talent Science team. Canonical is a leading open source software company behind Ubuntu, used broadly across cloud, AI, IoT and enterprise. The company operates a distributed model with colleagues in 75+ countries and few office based roles. The Talent Science team applies scientific, evidence based approaches to selection, leveraging behavioural science and analytics to ensure objective and high quality hiring decisions.

The role entails

As a Graduate Talent Scientist you will learn and contribute to the design and implementation of hiring strategies that deliver high performance outcomes. You will work with stakeholders across the business to support hiring, improve processes, and use data to draw insight. Key activities include:

  • Learning how to assess candidates using behavioural interview techniques and psychometric methods.
  • Applying and appreciating psychometrics in the workplace to inform selection practices.
  • Improving process and documentation efficiencies that fuel hiring practices.
  • Contributing to analytics projects that integrate data to produce actionable insights.
  • Building stakeholder relationships to design and implement solutions to hiring problems.
  • Learning systems and platforms to support hiring questions and ticket based support.

What we are looking for in you

We are seeking exceptional early career candidates with strong academic records and relevant exposure to talent topics. You will demonstrate analytical curiosity, a passion for people science, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast paced remote environment. Key requirements include:

  • Undergraduate degree in psychology or a people oriented subject, with an exceptional academic track record from high school and university.
  • Advanced analytical ability to dissect and analyse data using SQL. Python and advanced statistical analysis are advantageous.
  • Exposure to talent related topics via degree coursework, an internship, or a first role in a talent team.
  • Interest in technology platforms, automation, and improving hiring efficiencies.
  • Strong written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
  • Results orientation, project management skills, self motivation and curiosity to drive breakthroughs in the talent field.
  • Ability to travel internationally 2-4 times per year for team events, occasionally for up to two weeks.

Nice-to-have skills

  • Advanced theory of psychometrics.
  • Deep understanding of intrinsic motivation and human decision making.
  • Experience with Python for data analysis and statistical modelling.
