Position Overview

The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking a part-time Japanese Creative Copywriter (Contractor) to support the Advancement team for an upcoming Japan fundraising campaign. This project-based role focuses on generating persuasive, audience-oriented copy for banners, email, and other fundraising materials in Japanese, with English back-translations as required. Work will be performed remotely as a contractor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute ideas and creative concepts for fundraising materials, including banners and email campaigns, in Japanese.
  • Deliver high-quality creative copy in Japanese according to assignments and deadlines.
  • Provide accurate back-translations of Japanese copy into English.
  • Offer review and copyediting support for fundraising content.

Required Qualifications

  • Native-level Japanese fluency, with strong written English skills.
  • Relevant experience writing compelling, audience-focused marketing or fundraising copy.
  • Prior marketing experience is required.
  • Ability to accept feedback and adapt in collaborative, fast-paced workflows.
  • Comfort working in a mission-driven, international nonprofit environment.

Role Details and Compensation

This is a contract position. Contract roles are not eligible for benefits beyond required local statutory benefits, as applicable. The anticipated pay range for applicants based in the United States is US$36 to US$56 per hour. Pay for applicants outside the US will be adjusted to the country of hire. Actual compensation will be determined based on skills, experience, and location.

Location and Work Model

The Wikimedia Foundation is a remote-first organization with staff and contractors located in 40+ countries. This contractor role is remote; applicants should confirm that they can work as an independent contractor or business entity in their country of residence. Sponsorship is not permitted for this role.
