Senior Engineer- Experience Anywhere at VRChat

Join VRChat as a Senior Engineer on the Experience Anywhere team to design and build the backend systems that power immersive social experiences for a global community. What you will do

• Design, implement, and operate cloud-native backend services that deliver high performance, low latency, and high availability for VRChat users worldwide.
• Collaborate with full-stack teams to build features that improve content discovery, recommendations, and user engagement using data-driven approaches.
• Drive architectural decisions, propose scalable solutions, and mentor engineers across the team.
• Participate in the full software lifecycle from prototyping through production, including testing, deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
• Work closely with product, design, data, and QA to ship polished features that delight users and scale with platform growth.

Preferred skills and experience

• Proven experience in cloud application development and backend engineering at scale.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design, distributed systems, and performance optimization.
• Experience leveraging data to improve user experience, recommendations, or content discovery systems.
• Track record of shipping production services and mentoring teammates in best practices for reliability and observability.

Bonus points

• Experience in gaming, social platforms, or live systems that require real-time or near-real-time processing.
• Prior work on recommendation engines, discovery systems, or large-scale content platforms.
